Get Involved

The Old Saybrook Democratic Town Committee encourages all Democrats to get involved in our work.  Year round, we work on campaigns, plan events, conduct fundraising and much more.

In addition to meeting monthly, we currently have five standing committees:

Fundraising

The purpose of the Fund Raising Committee is to raise funds both for the regular operations of the Town Committee and for campaign purposes.  They plan a combination of low and high dollar events as well as online fundraising, potential auctions and sponsorships.  

Registrations

The Registrations Committee is responsible for reaching out to new Democrats in town and growing the attendance at regular DTC meetings.  In addition, they look for ways for the DTC to connect with the more than 2800 Democrats in town – learning what is of concern to them, educating them about the work of the Boards and Commissions, inviting them to participate in DTC activities.

Publicity

  • Prepare and disseminate a biweekly newsletter reporting on the work and the accomplishments of various Boards and Commissions, particularly those with Democratic majorities.
  • Prepare all regular email communication
  • Manage and regularly update the OSDTC’s Facebook page and Instagram account
  • Manage and regularly update the OSDTC’s website
  • Maintain a list of and relationships with local press outlets and reporters
  • Develop all support materials – for instance, giveaways and handouts for our civic engagement efforts

Issues

  • Plan information forums for the community
  • Identify and bring in guest speakers on critical topics for DTC meetings
  • Develop expert testimony for various hearings and town meetings
  • Work with other local activist groups to educate the community and press for relevant action on the part of Boards and Commissions
  • Consider developing and implementing polling to determine additional issues/concerns of residents

Civic Engagement

This committee determines what town-sponsored events the DTC should participate in and identifies any gaps that might be filled by DTC-sponsored activities.  In addition, they are responsible for building understanding and support for the DTC  and the Democratic Party through active engagement of residents at the events.
