Parks and Recreation
The Democratic-led Parks and Recreation Commission began implementing the first-ever strategic plan that includes new playgrounds, ball fields, disc golf and beautified walking paths throughout Old Saybrook. But their work is not done.
Moving forward, our Parks and Recreation candidate believes we must:
- Clark Community Park (aka Town Park) to include a much needed playground and the addition of a shaded picnic facility.
- Invest in all our parks to make them top-tier recreational areas for all ages.
- Optimize our waterfront properties for all residents and visitors to enjoy more kayaking, paddleboarding and beach amenities.
Nancy Shepard Gatta
Nancy has served Old Saybrook as a member of the Parks & Rec Commission for the last 8 years. But most locals know her as the Field Hockey coach at OSHS, a position she has held since 2018. A top-tier player herself in the late 1980s, Nancy was inducted to the OSHS Athletic Hall of Fame and the Connecticut Field Hockey Hall of Fame in 2024 in recognition of her history with the sport and current coaching achievements.
When it comes to her specific Parks & Rec accomplishments, Nancy is proud of her involvement in the strategy and redesign of Clark Community Park. Thanks to additional funding from the Town and the American Rescue Plan Act, the board’s concept can become a reality that all residents get to enjoy. As she seeks re-election, she is excited to activate these plans and work on the project to ensure its timely completion.
Field hockey has Nancy’s heart but fun fact: She is also a pickleball champion, receiving over 30 medals in the sport!
