Old Saybrook High School Scholarship


As part of our commitment to the Old Saybrook community, we are looking for an Old
Saybrook High School senior who is seeking to further their education and who is an
example of Civic Mindedness. Share with us what you have done to help our town and
the people who live here. This can include volunteering, participating in community
events, working to improve your local neighborhood, or participating in the electoral
process.


To apply, you must have a demonstrated interest in civic mindedness and a 3.0 or better average.

If you believe you are qualified, please complete the application form and email it and all necessary materials to oshsscholarships@gmail.com with a subject line of O.S. Democratic Town Committee no later than May 1, 2025.

Process:

Attach a copy of your transcript
Include a recommendation letter (from a teacher, coach, volunteer/job supervisor)
Write a 250–300-word essay illustrating the student’s interest in civic activities


Below are some questions that might help you focus in on your essay.


Have you run for student office or been appointed to a leadership position and what have you
accomplished in that position?


Have you voted, volunteered at the polls, or canvassed for a political candidate?


Are you involved in a local or national organization promoting environmental, human rights,
criminal justice or other important issues facing our world today?


Do you shop for an elderly neighbor, volunteer at a local food pantry or work for an animal
shelter?


Have you organized a neighborhood cleanup or raised money for a local community
organization?


Do your college plans include a degree in public policy or political science, criminal justice, or
environmental sciences? If so, include your goals and aspirations for this choice.
